Cyberattack suspends banks in New Zealand

At the moment, it is unclear who is behind the cyberattack and whether it resulted in a data breach.

On Wednesday, September 8, a cyberattack temporarily disrupted the work of New Zealand’s largest bank ANZ and a number of other financial institutions, as well as the country’s national postal service.

“CERT NZ has been informed of a DDoS attack on a number of New Zealand organizations. We are monitoring the situation and working with affected parties where possible, ” said New Zealand’s Computer Incident Response Team.

According to ANZ on Twitter, the cyberattack caused some services to stop working, in particular online banking and the goMoney app.

The problem also affected the state bank Kiwibank, which said it was working to restore access to its application, Internet banking, telephone banking and website.

At the moment, it is unclear who is behind the cyberattack and whether it resulted in a data breach.
